Thailand

LGI supported the work of Lanes Wythe as she worked in Thailand. Here is an update...

“God is working mightily through the missionaries I am working with in Thailand! We teach English with the Muang Thai Foundation based in Ban Non, a small village in the North Eastern part of Thailand. We travel to ten schools during the week which are located in Ban Non and neighboring villages. We then invite the students to the English Language Center in the weekends for extra English Language classes. Our time with the students on weekends is spent building relationships that provide opportunities to share the Gospel message. A contextualized Christian church service is also held at the English Center on Sundays. It entails dramatization based on the sermon, music and dancing all of which the students are heavily involved in. The older students are given a chance to take on leadership roles in these areas.

The Center’s doors are always open, literally. The loyalty among the people in Ban Non makes us feel safe. Thus we leave the doors open for the children who want to visit as they please. This is also due in part to the villagers’ placing high regard for the founders of the Muang Thai foundation and their staff. As you may know, the sex trade industry is rampant in Thailand and a vast number of the individuals involved are from the poorest areas such as Ban Non. Thus, the foundation places great emphasis on affirming the students’ character as well as encourage them to pursue higher education to become good citizens. We truly believe that these children can be the generation that will make a difference in their nation!”
